NORVADO, NORTHERN WISCONSIN’S PREMIER PROVIDER OF TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTS AND SERVICES, IS LOOKING FOR A CONSTRUCTION SPECIALIST REPORTING TO OUR EAGLE RIVER, WI OFFICE.
THIS ROLE
Will combine responsibilities of operating equipment and machinery for direct bury operations, such as direct bury plows and horizontal directional drilling equipment, with maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting customer network installations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Place and maintain underground cable and conduit systems.
- Maintain right-of-ways and construction project cleanups, including patching roadways and backfill areas, lawns, and landscaping.
- Install and remove aerial cable.
- Install and maintain pedestals, poles, carrier sites, and equipment at subscriber locations.
- Operate equipment required in burying cable plant, including vibratory plows, excavators, trenchers, and horizontal directional drilling equipment, in burying mainlines in right-of-ways and easements, as well as service drops at customer locations.
- Respond to outside plant emergency calls.
- Provide excellent customer service by maintaining, troubleshooting, installing, and documenting customer and business premise equipment and servicing infrastructure.
- Install and support residential customer networks. Willingness to learn the installation of ONT’s and Wi-Fi Routers.
- Use test equipment and software to locate trouble, record, localize, repair, bill accordingly, and close trouble tickets, with minimal repeats.
- Follow procedures or best practices on inventory control, neatness, truck stock, and correct material use.
- Ensure safety in work techniques and the environment.
- Serve as the main point of contact for bury crew staff on jobsites.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Desired 3-5 years of experience in construction field. Preferred knowledge of fiber optic installation techniques, equipment, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining construction equipment, such as trenchers, plows, and boring machines.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
- OSHA certification or equivalent safety training is preferred.
- Valid CDL driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites as needed. (If you don’t currently have a CDL, you must be willing to get one within a 3-month time frame.)
- Knowledge and skills standardly acquired through a certification/diploma program for construction, telecommunications, or a related field preferred.

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities to address construction challenges on-site.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality in construction work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to company and customer data.
- Comply with RUS specifications, industry standards, safety rules and regulations, and company policies.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- The role requires working in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather conditions, fumes, dust, odors, and moving mechanical parts. The job also involves high noise levels, frequent vehicular travel, and occasionally working in high or precarious places. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 80 pounds.
DAILY USE OF: construction equipment such as trenchers, plows, bucket trucks, and boring machines, along with regular use of computer, telephone, smart devices, and other office equipment.
