THIS ROLE

The Field Engineer will plan and prepare drawings for construction projects of new and existing aerial and underground lines, cables and conduits. Additionally, you will work on and coordinate all necessary functions to build, rearrange, repair and decommission plant. This position will report to our Cable, WI business office location.

 The above is intended to describe the essential functions of the Field Engineer. Other duties may be assigned as required by business necessity.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Certification/diploma in telecommunications or related field or equivalent GIS or CAD training and/or experience required.
  • One-year related work experience, preferred.
  • Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and applications and database management training or experience is required.
  • Training or education in emerging technologies, i.e: FTTH, IP, DSL, Sonet, preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, maps, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions from written, oral, or diagram formats.
  • Activities may be necessary outside normal business hours. Must be able to respond to “on-call” or emergency maintenance situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts and perform basic math calculations.
  • Must comply with all RUS specifications, industry standards, safety rules and regulations, and company policies.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • The Field Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering & Construction and works closely with all departments at Norvado.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

  • Operates in a typical plant setting with regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical components, elevated work areas, electrical hazards, moderate noise levels, and frequent travel by vehicle. Requires normal visual acuity to accurately identify wire colors. Regular interaction with residential and commercial customers to address support needs. Frequent handling and movement of parts and equipment weighing up to 30 lbs, with occasional lifting and maneuvering of items up to 50 lbs.

EQUIPMENT & TOOLS

  • Daily use of various telecommunications test equipment, power and hand tools, ladders, telephone, smart devices, computers and associated peripherals.

CUSTOMER SERVICE/INTERACTION

  • Daily phone, written, and face-to-face contact with employees throughout the company to exchange information. Daily phone and face-to-face contact with customers to conduct business. Daily phone and written contact with contractors to complete job tasks.

OTHER

  • Frequent travel by vehicle required.
  • Occasional overtime required.
  • Occasional on call required.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be necessary.
  • Occasional travel by air required.
